confused CBSE Grading System : Schools and Students in SuspenseUnlike earlier, the students appearing in Class X annual examination of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year will be awarded grades instead of marks in their certificates .

Till last year, the class X students used to get both marks as well as grades.

The schools however are seeing red in the new system, especially for this year. The class X students, who are to opt for a vocational or some other course after passing class X this year are worried a lot about their future.

Talking to Newsline, Harmeet Kaur Wariach, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, said,

“The grade system is not uniformly accepted. So the students who want to go for Joint Entrance Test (JET) for courses related to computers and fashion designing etc are likely to suffer unless these institutes alter their admission criteria. Till last year, these institutes used to admit children on the basis of the test along with aggregate marks. But now, as these students will receive their result in the form of grades and not aggregate marks, it is not clear as to how they will admit these students.”

Grading system is very good. But in their marksheet entering both marks and grade is better in my opinion.

Last week, i.e.on the 20th of January I happened to attend a seminar conducted by the CBSE Chairman, Mr. Vineet Joshi and Mrs. Sadhana Parashar in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In the same, in the question answer session someone had raised this point and they replied that this time CBSE will again display grades as well as marks on the marksheet! Since it was a face to face interaction there’s no spoce of any doubt. Thanks
